PM Phuc attends WEF opening session on Ocean Action Agenda
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attends the opening session themed “Meeting of leaders on ocean action agenda”
In his speech, PM Phuc called for making breakthroughs in sea and ocean governance, effectively pooling and allocating resources to cope with serious challenges arising from climate change and rising sea water, and support countries hardest hit by the ever-changing climate.
He proposed establishing an open public-private partnership forum on climate change adaptation and marine ecological environment protection so as to facilitate experience sharing, technological transfer and draw businesses’ participation in marine environment protection.
In the face of the fourth Industrial Revolution, he suggested the WEF should collaborate with partners to form a global network on marine and ocean data sharing and hailed international community for supporting ASEAN’s common stance on the need to ensure security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea.
On the fringes of the WEF 2019, the PM met with his Nepal counterpart K.P. Sharma Oli, during which the two sides consented to facilitate all-level visit exchange, accelerate the signing of an agreement on visa exemption for diplomatic and official passport holders, offer favourable conditions for enterprises to seek opportunities in areas of Nepal’s demand such as telecommunications, energy and infrastructure and of Vietnam’s strength, including farm produce, food, garment, footwear and electronics.
The Government leader also thanked Nepal for backing Vietnam’s run for a non-permanent seat of the United Nations Security Council for the 2020-2021 tenure.
Sharma Oli congratulated Vietnam on its rising regional and international standing and affirmed the Nepalese government’s readiness to incentivize and support Vietnamese enterprises in doing business in the country.
Meeting with Director General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) Roberto Azevedo, PM Phuc stated that Vietnam highly values multilateral trade system based on rules and laws within the WTO framework, adding that after over a decade of becoming a WTO member, Vietnam has upheld the spirit of activeness and high responsibility.

Dr. Pierre Groning, Director Advocacy of Amfori – a Belgium-based global business association – has applauded Vietnam’s increasingly important contributions to the World Economic Forum (WEF).
He said Vietnam can take advantage of the Forum to demonstrate itself as a country that protects and promotes multilateral order.
Pascal Kerneis, Managing Director of the European Services Forum (ESF), said Vietnam joining the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreements for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and negotiating the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) signaled it wishes to engage in the globalization process and the fourth Industrial Revolution.
