According to the Lang Son Steering Committee 389, for a long time, Lang Son has been considered “the hottest area” in terms of transporting and trafficking of poor quality food, especially increasing illegal transportation of poultry, causing difficulties in controlling this item at the border. This also increases the risk of avian influenza viruses from China entering Vietnam.
Since July, the demand for poultry breeds in the domestic market has increased, while the smuggling and trafficking of poultry breeds across border gate area in Loc Binh, Chi Ma Border Gate has been complex. Due to its large area, lots of trails and border crossings and sophisticated smuggling tricks, anti-smuggling task faces difficulties. Traders hire border residents to illegally transport poultry breeds across the border.
Recently, Customs has coordinated with local authorities to control, arrest and handle three cases of illegally transporting poultry, with a quantity of 22,500 poultry breeds.
To prevent poultry smuggling, the People's Committee of Lang Son province has askeddepartments and branches of the Provincial Steering Committee 389, the People's Committees of districts and cities to direct agencies and units to drastically implement solutions to control and prevent widespread avian influenza; the forces must take measures to prevent and strictly handle cases of smuggling and trafficking poultry and poultry products into Vietnam.
Competent forces should coordinate and share information and data on illegally transporting and trafficking smuggled poultry and poultry products with veterinary agencies to prevent illegal transportation and trafficking smuggled poultry and poultry products across borders and illegal trading of this item in the domestic market.

Lang Son Provincial People's Committee requested Customs and Border Guard forces strengthen patrol, inspection and control at border areas, trails, border crossings to prevent and handle acts of illegally transporting poultry and poultry products, causingdiseases spread.
The market surveillance and police forces have intensified the inspection and handling of trading, transporting and consuming smuggled non-originating poultry and poultry products, especially at domestic markets and poultry slaughtering sites. At the same time, publicise the harms of disease related to poultry on mass media for people to know.
