Lang Son: Fireworks smuggling continues after Tet

Statistics of the 389 Steering Committee of Lang Son Province, in 2016, the functional forces in the province, including: Police, Customs, Border Guard, Market Management ... has discovered, arrest 175 cases, with 125 subjects trafficking, transporting, storing Chinese fireworks production, collecting more than 3.7 tons of all kinds of fireworks (increasing by 23 cases compared to 2015). In particular, the investigation agency has prosecuted 54 cases, 67 defendants ... on charges of trafficking, transporting, storing illegal firecrackers. Many cases to be tried mobility have contributed to deter, preventing objects transporting firecrackers across the border. |
According to data from the 389 Steering Committee of Lang Son, calculated from 1/1/2017 to date, functional forces of Lang Son province have caught 59 cases, 60 trafficking subjects, transporting illegal fireworks, collecting over 2 tons of fireworks produced by China. This suggests that, before, during and after Tet, the number of cases and the number of trading, and transporting fireworks across the province has occurred more and more. Calculated separately only in Lang Son, the Customs forces have found and arrested 5 cases with 2 objects, seized 181.4 kg of fireworks of all kinds.
According to the 389 Steering Committee of Lang Son, although the last time, the functional forces of the province have made efforts to prevent trafficking, transporting, storing fireworks, but recently, fireworks transportation is still increasing. Typically, in 13/1/2017, at 235D ramp located in Bao Lam commune, Cao Loc District, Lang Son Province, the Department of HuuNghi Border Gate Customs has cooperated with authorities of investigating police (Public Security PC45- Lang Son province) of Cao Loc district to discover and arrest 2 objects transporting 100kg of fireworks which were on the way to consume. Especially in 12/1/2017, in police of Lang Son have arrested 3 cases, 5 subjects transport more than 328 kg of fireworks of all kinds.
According to the Customs Department of Lang Son, February is the time of the Tet festival, the number of travelers who come for spring travel increases, demand for commodities, especially firecworks tends to increase. This is also the time that immigration of visitors rises, potential risk of objects who will take the advantage to mingle smuggled goods into personal luggage of immigrants to transport cross-border.
To drastically prevent misconduct on fireworks, the Deputy Chairman of Lang Son, Mr Nguyen Cong Truong said that, Lang Son has directed the relevant authorities to deploy more drastic measures on prevention of producing, trading, transporting, and storing smuggled and illegal use of guns. Specifically, from the beginning of the year, the forces frequently deploy many measures; propaganda, advocacy for ethnic people to see the risk and harm caused by fireworks, engaging detecting, denouncing and combating acts of violations with fireworks. Lang Son province also directed the functional forces synchronously implement the operational measures, increasing patrols and controlling in key areas, particularly border gate areas; coordinating in investigation, prosecution and strictly judicial irregularities in use of fireworks.
Recently (on 6/2/2017), to strengthen the fight against smuggling, production, trading, storage and transportation of illegal fireworks, Lang Son Customs Department has directed the branch departments of border Customs andCustoms control teams to manage the Customs area, effectively implementingmeasures of Customs control operations to promptly detect, and fight effectively to prevent smuggling activities, and illegal transportation of all kinds of fireworks. At the same time, increasing patrols, controls, timely detection, arrests and strictly handle according to provisions to stop generating lines, major smuggling gangs in the border areas, and areas of Customs operation.

Exchanging with the reporters of Customs, Coc Nam Customs Branch representatives (Lang Son Customs Department) said, struggling to stop smuggling, especially the prohibited goods including fireworks of all kinds, different from the past, in the beginning of the year, the unit has actively coordinated with border guards to strengthen the forces, patrol and controlling the paths, and the two gate wings. Therefore, cases of illegal transportation of fireworks fell from 70 to 80%. However, because of greed, perpetrators used more sophisticated tactics such as hiding, and mixing fireworks with other commodities, torn apart to carry across the borders trail, then use the vehicles for transport to the other province for consumption, with increasingly serious nature and extent.
