Hai Phong Customs Department is assigned to manage and operate four container scanning machines, including one fixed scanning machine and three mobile scanning machines located at Tan Vu port, Nam Hai Dinh Vu port and Lach Huyen port.

According to the assessment of Hai Phong Customs Department, screening work has stabilised, the number of containers subjected to screening has reached an average of 116 containers each day.

Besides shipments with instructions for screening before and during clearance, the Customs Enforcement Team also supports customs branches in scanning goods, helping them assess risk of violations for all goods in the container to take appropriate management measures.

By the end of June, the whole department had screened more than 13,000 containers, of which, 6,339 containers were screened in customs clearance and 7,066 were screened during the loading and unloading process.

Through screening, 45 violations were detected and handled.

Some typical cases were related to the import declaration of Hanh Minh Import-Export Trading Co., Ltd. Goods shown on the manifest are shower gel and cake. Through scanning suspicious images, after verifying the situation and realising that the shipment had suspicious signs, the Customs Enforcement Team conducted a physical inspection of the shipment. They detected that consignment contained banned goods as used consumer goods. The consignment was sent to the evidence warehouse.

Another case is related to two containers of Trang Hoang Dat Trading Co., Ltd. On the manifest, the goods showed rubber conveyor belts, brand new 100%. The shipment was scanned and detected signs of violation, so the scanner inspection team transferred the information to the Customs Enforcement Team No. 1 for verification. As a result, the two containers contained imported banned goods that were used machinery and equipment, and the entire shipment was sent to the evidence warehouse.

In the case of ITTB Co., Ltd., importing a shipment declared as Paurosa wood, through scanning, it was detected suspicious. After conducting a physical inspection, the results showed beside the type of wood as declared, there was also West African cedarwood which was on the list of CITES (goods must have a license from the CITES management agency).
