Finding opportunities for exporting to South American market

Mercosur is a potential market with more than 275 million consumers. The total GDP reaches $4,580 billion, accounting for 82.3% of the region's GDP and about 70% of the population of South American. This is a high-potential market for Vietnamese export items such as garment, footwear, handicrafts, processed foods.
The economic, trade and investment relations between Vietnam and Mercosur have grown in recent years. In the past 10 years alone, the value of two-way trade has increased by more than 2.5 times, from $2.45 billion in 2011 to $8.68 billion in 2019, with Vietnam’s exports worth $2.7 billion and imports from Mercosur nearly $6 billion.
To help Vietnamese enterprises diversify export markets and promote their brand and the image of Vietnamese enterprises to important commercial markets in South America, the Trade Promotion Agency - Ministry of Industry and Trade, will hold an online trade conference Vietnam - Mercosur 2020 on October 1, 2 and 3.
The conference aims to remove difficulties for businesses during the pandemic; create conditions and opportunities for Vietnamese businesses to conduct online trade, connect potential partners and expand business into Mercosur.
Accordingly, the conference session (plenary) will take place at 7:00 PM (Vietnam time) , on October 1. The meeting will be chaired by Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai, with the participation of Ambassador Jorge Neme, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Religion of Argentina; the Ambassador of Vietnam at Argentina and Brazil; representatives of the Ministry of Commerce, Chamber of Commerce, Business Association of Mercosur countries; nearly 60 importers from Mercosur and more than 150 Vietnamese exporters.
Along with that, online trading sessions between Vietnamese businesses and Mercosur will be held through Zoom from October 1 to October 3, focusing on pharmaceuticals, ingredients of pharmaceuticals, medical products and supplies serving for the pandemic prevention; furniture (Bazzar style), handicrafts; processed food, rice; footwear, garments, textile materials, plastic materials, wine, beef, nuts and dried fruit.
