Sai Gon Seaport Customs Branch of Zone 1 has issued a decision to fine more than VND 1.1 billion to theChi Lam Wood Processing Co., Ltd (Extended Nam Tan Uyen Industrial Park, Hoi Nghia Commune, Tan Uyen Town, Binh Duong province) for incorrect declaration of goods name, leading to the lack of tax.

At the end of 2019, Sai Gon Seaport Customs Branch of Zone 1 coordinated with the Customs Enforcement Team under Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department, the Anti-Smuggling Enforcement of Southern Zone under the Anti-Smuggling and Investigation Department (the General Department of Vietnam Customs) to inspect a shipment of 111 wood containers exported to China, and detected that all these containers included incorrect declarations.

According to the company, they declared the exported goods as sawdustpellets with the tax rate of 0 percent. The shipment was classified into Yellow Channel (checking dossier).

Through gathered information, Sai Gon Seaport Customs Branch of Zone 1 detected suspicious signs of the shipment and stopped customs clearance and conducted a physical inspection.

Through the physical inspection, Sai Gon Seaport Customs Branch of Zone 1 detected that the exported goods wereinconsistent with the company’s declaration. The goods in containers were sawn timber, with the export tax rate of 25 percent. The value of the shipment is nearly VND 23 billion, the lack of tax payablewasover VND 5.7 billion .

After working and consulting the People's Procuracy of Ho Chi Minh City, Sai Gon Seaport Customs Branch of Zone 1 has fined 20 percent of fraudulent taxfor the company,collected insufficient tax amount and permit exports of the above wood shipment. Thus, the company has been fined and imposed taxarrears of VND 7 billion.
