Customs launches the Campaign on prevention crimes in forestry

Despite ongoing efforts, the smuggling and illegal transportation of wood and wood products across borders remain a complex and persistent issue. In response, Vietnam Customs has announced its participation in the ARCADIA 2024 Campaign, a global initiative aimed at curbing illegal wildlife trade.

To proactively control, promptly detect, and effectively handle cases of wood smuggling and illegal transportation across borders, Vietnam Customs has launched a high-intensity campaign within the ARCADIA 2024 framework. The campaign will run from June 30 to August 30, 2024.

During this period, the General Department of Vietnam Customs has instructed local customs departments and the Anti-Smuggling and Investigation Department to focus on the following tasks:

Strengthen the collection and exchange of customs-related information; grasp the situation of management areas; supervise and control import and export goods, means on transport on entry and exit; apply synchorously professional measures to promptly prevent, intercept, and handle smuggling and illegal wood transportation.

Active cooperation with law enforcement agencies (Police, Boder Defence,…) in sharing information, identifying, apprehending, and prosecuting offenders.
