Domestic businesses are striving for green growth basing on three pillars of standardisation, digitalisation, and commercialisation, said a representative from the Business Association of High-Quality Vietnamese Products at a seminar on Vietnamese high-quality products and opportunities to success in the green economy in Ho Chi Minh City on March 14.
The representative called on the business community to define clear missions, visions and implementation methods on the foundation of sustainable development principles, while working towards the green and circular economy by optimising the whole life cycle of raw materials, forming a new value chain, and increasing the competitiveness of Vietnamese products.
Vu Thi Kim Hanh, President of the association said that this year, after 27 years of implementing the High-Quality Vietnamese Goods Programme, the association will design new activities towards green growth.
A report jointly conducted by the association and the Business Studies and Assistance Centre (BSA) showed that many green startups have successfully entered foreign markets in Europe, the US, the Republic of Korea and Japan.
Nguyen Hoang Linh, Vice Director of the Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality under the Ministry of Science and Technology underlined the need for a system of green standards in the green economy. He advised enterprises and business associations to update their production strategy and choose a suitable standard system to meet the demands of consumers inside and outside the country.
Economist Pham Chi Lan said that now that Vietnam has made strong commitments in implementing green growth, the business community should actively improve their capacity and drive consumers towards the green consumption direction.
Associations should assist businesses in multiplying green development models, turning them into a common trend and a criterion for the recognition of high-quality products.
Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vo Tan Thanh said that many policies and mechanisms have been designed to encourage enterprises to transform their production using clean and renewable energy./.
