Banking sector leads corporate bond issuance

A report released by the MB Securities Joint Stock Company shows that the scale of the domestic corporate bond market has tripled over the past four years. Since January 2019, businesses have raised a total of VND60 trillion (US$2.58 billion) from bond issuances. Of note, banking-finance and securities firms as well as real estate developers made a combined proportion of 72 per cent.
Commercial banks have mobilized VND18.2 trillion from the issuance of bonds, equivalent to 32 per cent of the total amount.
VPBank in particular issued three-year bonds worth a total of VND5.9 trillion (US$253.7 million) at the interest rate from 6.4 - 6.9 per cent. It was followed by HDBank with three issuance phases of two-year and three-year bonds totally valued at VND3 trillion (US$129 million).
Construction, real estate, and infrastructure firms have been ranked second among the list of corporate bond issuers as they have raised VND16.230 trillion (US$697.89 million) from their bond issuances since the beginning of the year.
Securities firms have mobilized a total of VND5.1 trillion (US$219.3 million) from their issuance of one-to-three-year bonds, at the coupon rate ranging from 8 - 11.3 per cent.
Noticeably, VNDIRECT Securities Corporation raised VND1.46 trillion (US$62.68 million) from the release of one-to-three-year bonds at the rate of 9.5 - 11.3 per cent, including VND660 billion (US$28.38 million) from convertible bonds.
