According to information released by the General Department of Customs, in July, the entire sector presided over, discovered, seized and handled 1,081 customs-related violation cases with total infringing goods worth VND 112 billion and collected VND 67 billion.

Customs prosecuted four criminal cases and transferred 10cases to other agencies for prosecution.

Among routes, the smuggling on the road is still the most common with 689 cases, followed by 321 cases by sea and 71 cases by air.

The General Department of Customs recognized that after social distancing and measures to stimulate economic development, smuggling and illegal cross-border transportation of goods have shown signs of increasing.

Infringing goods were sugar, cigarettes, powder milk, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, electronics and fake goods of famous brands.

Meanwhile, trafficking and illegal transportation of drugs are still complex, especially on road borders of Dien Bien, Son La, Nghe An and Tay Ninh; and air and sea.

On July 7, 2020, at Km103, National Road 12 across Tin Toc village, Muong Tung commune, Muong Cha district, Dien Bien province (from Muong Te to Muong Lay town), the Northern Drug Enforcement Unit - Unit 5 (under the Anti-smuggling and Investigation Department, General Department of Customs) worked with C04 Department (Ministry of Public Security), C04 Division (Dien Bien Public Security), Muong Lay town’s Public Security (Dien Bien province) and Drug Enforcement Team (Dien Bien Customs) and arrested Thao A Da, born on January 1, 1994, residing at Chuyen Gia 2 village, Nam Ke commune, Muong Nhe district, Dien Bien province and seized 54 heroin bricks and related exhibits.
