A female passenger who transported the cocaine was seized.

At 9.15 pm on 25 December, 2016, the Anti-drug Enforcement Team of the Ho Chi Minh city Department of Customs chaired and collaborated with the Entry Luggage Customs Procedures Team under the Hai Quan branch at the Tan Son Nhat airport to conduct an investigation for luggage of a female passenger on entry flight EK392 from Dubai to Tan Son Nhat airport on 9.45 pm of the same date, and detected 1.6 kg of cocaine hidden in the bottom of a backpack in the baggage.

This female passenger was SORACIPA MONROY CLAUDIA STEPHANNY, a Colombian, born on 20 October, 1995, Passport No. AT388813

When the passenger did Customs procedures, by screening, the Customs officers had a doubt about her baggage which showed extraordinary images. The Customs officers requested Mrs. SORACIPA MONROY CLAUDIA STEPHANNY to take her baggage to the Key Audit Division of the Entry Luggage Customs Procedures Team –the Customs branch at the Tan Son Nhat airport, for inspection.

Taking the sample for quick test by the drug testing reagents, the team received a positive result with cocaine. Then, the team conducted a sample of the white powder for the Police Division of Criminal Technology (PC54) – Ho Chi Minh City Public Security. According to the notification of result No. 227/PC54 dated 26 December, 2016 of PC54, the sample was drug in solid form and was cocaine. Total weight of cocaine seized was about 1.61 kg (including the wrapping)

Based on the notification of the result of PC 54 and testimony of the passenger, the Anti-drug Enforcement Team collaborated with the Entry Luggage Customs Procedures Team – the Customs Branch at the Tan Son Nhat airport, and C47B – Ministry of Public Security, the Public Security at the Tan Son Nhat airport and made a caught-in-the-act report for Mrs. SORACIPA MONROY CLAUDIA STEPHANNY and handed the case’s file, exhibits and the perpetrator over to the police Division of Drugs Investigation (PC47) of the Public Security of Ho Chi Minh city for investigation under its authorization.
