The Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) is proposing a rental assistance package for workers' accommodation.

The package is worth VNĐ6.6 trillion (US$20.9 million) and is planned to quickly restabilise the labour market, which has been adversely affected by the pandemic, especially during the long lockdowns of 2021.

The proposal will be completed this month.

The plan was made based on the Prime Minister’s official letter on the programme of socio-economic recovery, development and enhancement of public investment capital disbursement.

The package will offer housing rental support for labourers who are renting and/or working in industrial parks, export processing zones and key economic areas.

MOLISA Minister Đào Ngọc Dung said that the proposal would be submitted to the Government and approved by the National Assembly for disbursal.

The programme of socio-economic recovery and development in Resolution No. 43/2022/QH15 dated January 11, 2022, by the National Assembly mentions social security recovery, stating that restoring the labour market is a key issue.

Workers who continue working will be offered assistance money for three months, while those being encouraged to return to the labour market will be given support for three months at double the rate, the minister said.

The Việt Nam Bank for Social Policies has been assigned to use a sum of money to support businesses using soft loans to build houses and dormitories for their employees to buy or rent.

Money would also be taken from the State Budget to lend workers at low-interest rates so that they could buy houses at cheap prices and be provided with a minimum level of social security, Dung added. — VNS
