Many wood processing enterprises in Binh Duong are making efforts to digitally transform to increase productivity and efficiency.

Mr. Nguyen An Son, Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy, Ministry of Industry and Trade, said that in Vietnam, digital transformation in the industrial production sector has become an urgent need. However, managers and businesses are faced with the decision of how to transform before the technology boom, with the increase in integration options, but must be linked to production and business conditions and suitable with resources.

According to Mr. Son, the level of readiness for digital transformation in the current business sector is quite low and there are not many small businesses such as startups that have the conditions and resources to access effective digital transformation programs and solutions. Along with that, the dependence on technology is tending towards large enterprises, FDI enterprises.

Accordingly, small businesses find very difficult to access advanced production lines and technologies. “In addition, in terms of human resources, especially in the upcoming period, AI has been affecting the quality and quality-related issues, the ability to provide human resources for the digital transformation manufacturing industry in the industry…” Mr. Nguyen An Son pointed out.

From the business perspective, Dr. Nguyen Huu Phuoc Nguyen, CEO of Selex Motors, said that there are still limitations in the perception of the benefits of digital transformation. The most important thing is that the head of the business must recognize and correctly assess the digital transformation needs of the business and have a roadmap for appropriate transformation.

According to Mr. Tran Duc Tung, Deputy General Director of Hanel Manufacturing and Import-Export Joint Stock Company (Hanel PT), for businesses in the electronics sector, the need for digital transformation is very urgent. In the past five years, digital transformation and smart manufacturing have become an inevitable need that businesses need to aim for. Without smart manufacturing as well as the application of technology and centralized enterprise data management, it is difficult to compete and create efficiency in the process of enterprise management.

According to Mr. Tran Kien Dung, ILO expert, Director of ProfM Vietnam Co., Ltd., in Vietnamese enterprises, in the recent period, there have been both successful and failed lessons. 80% of enterprises failed in digital transformation due to hasty decisions without a suitable strategy or roadmap. To successfully transform digitally, it is necessary to have appropriate technology solutions, financial resources and especially competent, trained, dedicated human resources who understand digital transformation.

Therefore, to successfully transform digitally in manufacturing enterprises, Mr. Nguyen Huu Phuoc Nguyen emphasized the need for support and pilot programs to help enterprises change their perceptions more strongly and promote the digital transformation process. State management agencies or associations need to build many practical support programs. In addition to training, these programs should focus on directly consulting each enterprise, helping them identify digital transformation solutions suitable for the current production situation

Many enterprises have difficulty in objectively self-assessing or taking the time to find effective digital transformation methods. Therefore, specific pilot projects will be an important "springboard", not only helping enterprises change their perceptions but also clearly demonstrating the practical benefits of digital transformation, thereby motivating them to continue to deploy on a larger scale.

In addition, there should be policies to encourage and support domestic enterprises to develop digital solutions. “Digital transformation is not just a matter of will, but solutions are the deciding factor. If businesses only depend on foreign solutions, the cost will be very high and difficult to access. Meanwhile, Vietnam can completely develop domestic solutions at a more reasonable cost. Therefore, creating conditions and supporting policies to promote domestic technology businesses to develop suitable products is very important, helping businesses easily access and effectively implement digital transformation,” said Mr. Nguyen Huu Phuoc Nguyen. Mr.

Nguyen An Son said that the Ministry of Industry and Trade will also continue activities to promote digital transformation. In addition to reviewing, amending and supplementing the system of legal documents, the Ministry will soon submit to the Prime Minister for approval the Program to support industrial manufacturing enterprises in applying 4.0 technology through digital transformation to develop smart manufacturing in the period up to 2030 and effectively implement the Program after approval, creating a unified basis for activities to support industrial enterprises in digital transformation and access to smart manufacturing models.
