Speaking at the question and answer session of the National Assembly Standing Committee on August 10, Deputy Nguyen Hai Anh (Dong Thap) said tourism can only fully recover when the global tourism market is fully recovered.

Amid the pandemic’s unpredictable developments, some countries are still not ready to open the tourism market and still restrict travel. In such circumstances, cooperation between the Governments of the countries is a must.

“I request the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism to tell us the solution to this problem and the Ministry's proposals to the Government to have appropriate instructions to boost cooperation with other countries to recover the global tourism market soon, thereby promoting the recovery of the tourism market in Vietnam," said Nguyen Hai Anh.

Also paying attention to tourism development, Deputy Don Tan Phong (An Giang) said, currently the volume of international tourists returning to Vietnam is still very low, while the number of international tourists is an important indicator. An Giang Deputy asked the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism to clarify solutions to develop international tourism in Vietnam in a sustainable way.

Speaking at the session, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung said that the culture, sports and tourism industries have been facing many difficulties and challenges. How to increase the number of international visitors and ensure sustainability to attract domestic tourists and contribute more to the budget is an urgent task.

Tourism is an industry that has suffered a lot due to the Covid-19 pandemic. After reopening tourism, the situation is better. Vietnam is choosing domestic tourism as a development step. Attracting international visitors is still a concern.

Mr. Hung said that it takes time to connect with traditional customers, and it is also necessary to closely coordinate with related industries to create the most favorable conditions for visitors, better ensure the quality of tourism services, and professionalize travel business activities.

Due to the difference in prevention and control policies in countries, the reception of foreign visitors still encounters some problems. Vietnam is basically ready to welcome international tourists, but still has to overcome some situational difficulties.

Regarding the difficulty of human resources in the tourism industry, Minister Nguyen Van Hung said the Ministry has been strengthening the capacity of training institutions and lecturers; promoting socialization and international cooperation in human resource training; improve vocational skills through perfecting and applying sets of occupational standards at national and international levels.

“It is necessary to focus on an overall assessment of the current situation of human resources to have radical solutions, but there must be a vocational training solution in the immediate future. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has developed a project to develop a national qualification framework for a number of key tourism industries,” said Mr. Hung.

Moreover, the Ministry has also coordinated with ministries and agencies to appraise and issue a number of national occupational skill standards compatible with ASEAN occupational standards, and supplement and improve the list of training courses at level IV in the field of tourism from intermediate to postgraduate levels.
