Regarding Vietnam’s contributions to the G20 Summit, Prime Minister Phuc said that as Vietnam is emerging and extensively integrating into the global economy, it will share with other countries its vision, cooperative initiatives, and efforts to advance global peace and prosperity, leaving no one behind.

As a responsible member of the international community, Vietnam has made positive and practical contributions to the agenda of the G20, especially in strengthening the multilateral trade system, economic connectivity, high-quality infrastructure development, renovation promotion, digital economy, as well as the implementation of UN Agenda 2030 on Sustainable Development, climate change response, maritime environmental protection, plastic waste prevention, and women empowerment.

In response to questions on the Vietnam-Japan relationship, the Vietnamese government leader said the extensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Japan is growing steadily, effectively meeting the interests of the two peoples and contributing to global peace, stability, prosperity, cooperation and development.

Both nations have maintained regular exchanges of visits at all levels to strengthen bilateral political trust. Japan is Vietnam’s top partner in investment, trade and tourism and the largest ODA provider. Cooperation between the two countries’ localities has been expanded.

The two sides have worked closely at regional and global forums, like the United Nations, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), and the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), thus contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development. Both sides have also coordinated closely to accelerate the signing and ratification of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and are working together to effectively implement the deal, he said.

PM Phuc said Vietnam will work hand in hand with the international community including Japan to promote cooperation at sea in line with international law, particularly the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea in order to ensure security, safety, and freedom of navigation and overflight in the East Sea.

As the country coordinator of ASEAN – Japan ties from August 2018 – August 2021, Vietnam desires to enhance joint work with Japan at regional and international forums, especially within the framework of ASEAN – Japan cooperation. On bilateral terms, Vietnam suggests Japan continue launching projects and a programme on improving the capacity of legal enforcement at sea, and assisting the country in the effective implementation of the marine-based economy development strategy till 2030 with a vision to 2045, the Vietnamese cabinet leader said.

Vietnam greatly values Japan’s role in maintaining the East Sea’s stability and security and believes Japan will further contribute to peace, stability, security and prosperity in the region and around the world.

Regarding Japan’s approval of an open door policy for foreign workers, Prime Minister Phuc said there are more than 300,000 Vietnamese people living in Japan and Vietnam welcomes Japan’s recent establishment of new residence status to receive more foreign workers including those from Vietnam.

The Vietnamese government hopes to step up cooperation in this regard with Japan, he added.
