According to JETRO, 2016, Vietnam ranked No. 5 of the total countries importing agricultural products and foodstuffs from Japan (by turnover). In recent years, in Vietnam, the number of Japanese restaurants has increased particularly in the two major cities Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Along with the increasingly diversified and extended demand for food in the country, Vietnam has become a promising market for exported food products from Japan. Therefore, JETRO has continuously held the Japanese and Vietnamese business connection programs to contribute to promote increasing trade relations between the two countries. Particularly, JETRO held the business connection program in the field of Sake in 2015 and organized a business connection program inagricultural, forestry and fishery products.

At the seafood business connection meeting on the afternoon of 20 February, 2017, Owase Bussan Joint Stock Company introduced many orange fish farmed on the basis of SQF certification - a Certification of aquaculture. According to representatives of the Owase Bussan Company, frozen orange fish dorsal products are standardized to be eaten raw, cooked or made for sashimi. Because the company only uses fishof the winter period; the fish retain their fat. The selling price of this product in Japan is 2.100 Yen/ kg .

Yamanaka Joint Stock Company also introduced frozen oysters. This product can be eaten raw and valid to use within 1 year by a special frozen technique of the company. Currently, this product is priced at 560 Yen / kg.

Similarly, Northern Trading Joint Stock Company introduced frozen steamed horsehair crabs. As said by the company representatives, the crabs are frozen immediately after catching in the Okhotsk area. This product can be used immediately after being defrosted or cooked with water. This crab sold at a price of 4500-5000 Yen/kg in Japan depending on size.

In addition, many other businesses also introduced their foods such as seaweed, salmon, salmon roe, cod roe, steamed octopus and tuna.,etc

The Connection programattracted the attendance of over 60 Vietnamese businesses trading in food distribution and restaurants. In which, there were many large importing enterprises such as Aeon, Lotus Food, Simba, Akuruhi Group in order to seek qualified sources and competitive prices. Besides, many other enterprises also joined the program to diversify their products such as An Nam Food Co., Ltd and Mitsubishi Corporation.
