US Navy carrier strike group visits Da Nang
USS Carl Vinson, the pride of the US Navy, is the US Navy’s third Nimitz-class supercarrier. The ship was launched in 1980.
During the five-day visit, 6,000 crew members will have a wide range of exchange activities with the Vietnam People’s Navy, visit orphanages and centres for Agent Orange/Dioxin victims. The aircraft carrier will welcome military, press and Da Nang officials delegations to visit.
The visit aims to actualize the agreement reached by the two countries’ senior leaders in the joint statement issued by Vietnam and the US during US President Donald Trump’s visit to Vietnam in November 2017. It is seen as a step of strengthening the two countries’ ties in line with their comprehensive partnership, thereby maintaining peace, stability, security, cooperation, and development in the region.
