Set up special projects to destroy wildlife smuggling rings

Accordingly, the Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh has requested the Ministry of Public Security to direct the functional units to monitor the situation and set up special projects to destroy smuggling rings and illegal transportation of wild animals and wildlife products, including ivory.

The Ministry of Public Security has also directed functional units to accelerate investigation of ivory smuggling in recent times and collaborated with the Institute of the Supreme People's Procuracy and the Supreme People's Court to quickly put these cases under prosecution in accordance with the Law.

In addition, the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Truong Hoa Binh has requested the Ministry of Finance to direct Customs to strengthen inspections, supervision and control of exports and imports on the road, sea and air; and coordinate with relevant forces to strictly handle illegal transportation of wild animals and wildlife products, including ivory.

Recently, functional authorities have made many efforts in combating and dismantling the international illegal transportation of wild animals. However, in some local areas, the processing and sale of wildlife products including ivory and rhino horns are complicated, which has caused difficulties for law enforcement forces.

In order to prevent this situation, the Prime Minister has also issued a Directive and many legal documents to request State agencies and People's Committees of provinces and cities to review, inspect and strictly handle the animal trade, especially ivory and rhino horns.
