Investing in modern equipment

According to the leader of Long An Port Joint Stock Company, the shipment of 24 world-leading modern crane equipment manufactured by Mitsui E&S (Japan) has been completed 100% and is being loaded onto a specialized ship to import to Vietnam. These cranes are expected to be transported to Long An International Port in October 2022. In the context of the global situation strengthening supply chain resilience, automation of logistics, last-mile delivery, development orientations, and investment in modern equipment of Long An International Port is considered to be the right development trend, including the container bus project to bring practical values to enterprises in the process of optimizing logistics costs, reducing product costs, increasing competitiveness for import and export enterprises.

Mr Vo Quoc Huy, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Long An Port Joint Stock Company, said that with the investment in modern equipment, Long An international port would provide a complete package of container handling services from the second quarter of 2023 with two container berths, six cranes and nine container yards (including refrigerated containers), which could handle more than 500,000 TEUs annually, creating a solid foothold in the logistics and supply chain market not only in Vietnam. South but also in the region and the world.

Evaluating the digital transformation efficiency of Long An International Port in particular and Dong Tam Group (investor of Long An International Port) in general, Vice Chairman of Long An Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Minh Lam said that at the end of 2021, Long An Provincial People's Committee awarded Dong Tam Group the Certificate of Merit "Pioneer in digital transformation". Cat Lai Port under Saigon Tan Cang Corporation is the largest and most modernly invested seaport in Vietnam, with a scale of 160 hectares of yards, 2,040 meters of wharf, loading and unloading equipment and advanced management technology standing in the top 20 most significant and most modern container ports in the world. With a system of modernly invested equipment, Cat Lai port always holds the No. 1 position in Vietnam regarding port exploitation, accounting for 55% of the market share of import and export containers through the nationwide port system. Every year, Saigon Tan Cang contributes37% of total import-export tax revenue, 8% of national budget revenue and about 20% of Ho Chi Minh City's budget revenue.

Along with Cat Lai, Dinh Vu port (Hai Phong) is also evaluated as a specialized and modern container port in the region, with a total area of 24 hectares, a wharf length of 425 meters, wharf depth of more than 500 meters. The port's receiving capacity is 600,000 TEU per year, 12,000 - 15,000 TEUper week, and it can operate ships of 50,000 DWT to reduce load. Up to now, Dinh Vu port has put eight latest generations of RTG gantry cranes serving loading and unloading containers back yard. With a lifting capacity of 40 tons. Along with the STS gantry crane system, specialized container transport trucks and other modern loading and unloading equipment are integrated with a real-time container management software system, which is convenient for enterprises.

Digital technology application

Currently, port services are an essential focal point and play a decisive role in improving the efficiency of the entire shipping process. The main objective of port services is to focus on building port service zones to optimize logistics processes by improving port compatibility and technology enhancement. Therefore, along with the investment in a system of modern machinery and equipment, seaports have firmly applied modern technology and utility software applications to create the most convenient and save the most costs for enterprises to use the service.

Recently, Saigon Newport Corporation (SNP) introduced the SNP ePort application on its mobile devices to make it easier for customers to use information technology in freight forwarding through ports. Launched in 2016, ePort is an electronic portal utility that Saigon Newport Corporation built to assist customers in looking up information, declaring procedures for lifting and lowering containers and paying to lift and lowering fees containers online. To constantly improve service quality and optimize the business experience when using the service, the ePort application has been constantly upgraded and developed by SNP through the stages from the Web platform to mobile devices. In particular, the program's online check-in function is an outstanding advantage in helping drivers minimize waiting time in front of the port gate. As a result, the shipments have been declared by enterprises on SNP ePort Mobile and implemented features, such as EDO authentication, payment, declaration, online check-in, transport unit declaration, export vessel registration, register to cut and press seal... enterprises highly appreciate this program for its many benefits.

One of the breakthroughs in implementing SNP's electronic port project is the application of Electronic Delivery Orders at the Port (EDO). EDO replaces conventional delivery orders with electronic data transmission. Mr Truong Tan Loc, Marketing Director of SNP, said that electronic delivery orders were one of the essential solutions contributing to shortening procedure time, saving enterprises, and overall societal costs. In addition, reducing traffic congestion around the port was a premise to build Cat Lai port into a modern, digital port.

In Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Cai Mep International Port (CMIT) has also been successfully applying software with outstanding features such as electronic invoices (e-invoice) and automatic customs supervision (e) -cargo). In addition, CMIT is the first port in Vietnam to use TradeLens technology to update cargo data, directly supporting to improvement of the efficiency of customers' supply chain planning...
