Party and State leaders’ overseas visits in 2016
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong led a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation go visit Laos on November 24-25 at the invitation of General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) and Lao President Bounnhang Vorachith.
This is the first overseas visit of the Party leader after he was re-elected General Secretary for the 12th Communist Party tenure. This demonstrates the Vietnamese Party and State’s recognition of high importance on strengthening traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation with Laos.
During the visit, the Party chief held talks with Mr Vorachith and met other Lao leaders and former leaders.
The Party leader had a talk with Lao National University students on special ties between the two countries.
Earlier, President Tran Dai Quang and his spouse visited Laos on June 12-14 at the invitation of President Bounnhang Volachith.
The President held talks with Lao Party General Secretary and President Bounnhang Vorachith, met Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith and National Assembly Chairwoman Pany Yathotu and former President Choummaly Saynhasone.
State President Tran Dai Quang paid a two-day visit to Cambodia on June 15-16 at the invitation of King Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni.
During the visit, President Tran Dai Quang had a royal audience with King Norodom Sihamoni, and met President of the Senate Say Chhum, President of the National Assembly Heng Samri, and Prime Minister Hun Sen.
During a visit to Brunei on August 26-28, the State leader held talks with King Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah.
President Quang attended Vietnam-Brunei Business Forum with the participation of nearly 250 businesspeople from the two countries.
During a visit to Singapore on August 28-30, the President held talks with his Singapore counterpart Tan Keng Yam and met Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
The State leader delivered a speech at the Vietnam-Singapore Business Forum.
President Quang led a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to visit Cuba on November 15-17. Upon his arrival, the President met with Cuban leader Fidel Castro.
During talks with President of the Council of State and the Council of Ministers Raul Castro, the two sides vowed to continue maintaining and improving the efficiency of existing cooperation mechanisms.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc visited Russia on May 16-18 at the invitation of his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev.
At the talks, PM Medvedev affirmed that Russia always considers Vietnam one of the country’s leading partners in Asia-Pacific.
PM Phuc attended the ASEAN-Russia Summit in Sochi, Russia.
Addressing the summit he suggested measures to further promote ASEAN-Russia ties.
The Government leader visited Japan and attended G7 Summit there on May 26-28 at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
This is the first time Vietnam was invited to take part in the summit.
PM Phuc discussed with his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe major orientations and specific measures to develop the Vietnam -Japan extensive strategic partnership in a comprehensive, pragmatic and more effective manner in the time ahead.
Prime Minister Phuc paid a two-day visit to Mongolia on July 13-14.
The Vietnamese government leader attended the 11th ASEM in Ulaanbaatar on July 15-16.
PM Phuc visited China and attended the ASEAN-China Expo and the 13th ASEAN-China Business and Investment Summit on September 10-15.
The Vietnamese cabinet leader held talks with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.
Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and a high-level Party and State delegation left Hanoi on November 28 for Cubato attend the State funeral for Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro, who passed away on November 25.
The NA chairwoman visited India and attended the 11th Global Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on December 8-13.
She delivered an importance speech at the summit.
