Official welcoming ceremony for DPRK Chairman

On the afternoon of March 1, Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong hosted an official welcoming ceremony for Chairman of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) and the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong-un in Hanoi.

The DPRK Chairman Kim Jong-un begins his friendship visit to Vietnam on March 1 at the invitation of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and President of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong

The trip comes 60 years following the first visit to Vietnam by then leader of the DPRK Kim Il-sung in 1958 and is ahead of the 70th founding anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties (January 31) in 2020.

Party leader and President Nguyen Phu Trong and DPRK Chairman Kim Jong-un step to the speakers’ podium before the national anthems of the two countries are played.

The two leaders inspect the guards of honour.

The visit is expected to represent a historic landmark in relations between the two nations.
