Meeting examines preparations for upcoming general election

The Personnel Sub-committee of the National Election Council convened its first meeting in Hanoi on January 6 to examine preparations for the upcoming general election.

The meeting was presided over by Tong Thi Phong, Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly, Vice President of the National Election Council and Head of the Personnel Sub-committee.

National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan also attended the session.

In her address, Phong noted the Personnel Sub-committee will work frequently and continuously to make recommendations to the National Election Council to help successfully organize the election.

The Personnel Sub-committee will work closely with relevant agencies to select, introduce and elect a sufficient number of National Assembly deputies, meeting required criteria regarding profession, gender, ethnicity, among others, said Phong.

Sub-committee delegates debated a draft report on the personnel and organisational structure of the upcoming legislative body, including the expected number and composition of the deputies.

They will report the results of the meeting to the upcoming session of the National Assembly Standing Committee.

Vietnamese people will cast their ballots to elect 500 deputies to the 15th National Assembly for the 2021-2026 term on May 23, 2021. The same day, they will also elect deputies to the local People’s Councils for the same term.
