Japanese businesses incentivized to invest in automobile, energy

During the first 11 months of this year, Japan remained Vietnam's largest investor with a combined capital of nearly US$8 billion, constituting 26% of the country’s total newly-registered capital, Dung told his guest.
He hailed Japan’s close cooperation and support in developing transport, especially in technical assistance for pre-feasibility studies of the north-south high-speed railway project, metro lines in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Terminal T2 at Noi Bai International Airport, Nhat Tan bridge, Cai Mep-Thi Vai and Lach Huyen ports, which have greatly contributed to Vietnam’s socio-economic development.
The Deputy PM also suggested Japan help Vietnam study the implementation of large-scale infrastructure projects on urban and high-speed railways and highways.
He said he hopes that Japan will share its experience with Vietnam in infrastructure management and upgrade, and personnel training in aviation and maritime industries.
Dung thanked the Japanese Government and people for helping Vietnam respond to climate change and address impacts of natural disasters while asking Japan to provide non-refundable official development assistance (ODA) for projects to build a disaster prevention and control centre and to increase the capacity of reducing risks of flash floods and landslides in the northern mountainous region.
For his part, Minister Keiichi Ishii congratulated Vietnam on its socio-economic development achievements, particularly in infrastructure, tourism, and environmental protection.
He extolled the Vietnamese Government’s sound leadership to timely remove obstacles in the implementation of infrastructure development projects.
He voiced his hope that with the combined efforts of the Government, ministries, sectors and localities, Vietnam’s infrastructure system will see rapid development, thus creating the prerequisite for socio-economic development.
Japan is particularly interested in important transport infrastructure projects such as the Long Thanh International Airport, high-speed railways, highways and urban railways in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and other major cities.
Sharing his sympathy with Vietnam over losses caused by disasters this year, he affirmed his nation’s closer coordination with Vietnam in installing early warning systems as well as coming up with construction and non-construction solutions to effectively cope with natural disasters.
