Building a green ecosystem
According to experts, green production and, subsequently, green branding have become the new "rules of the game" in both domestic and international markets. This stems from the fact that green trade and the green economy have been and continue to be dominant trends in the global economy. This trend not only contributes to mitigating environmental damage but also serves as a solid foundation for a sustainable economy in the future.
In practice, many technical standards related to green elements for imported products have been implemented in Vietnam's key export markets. For example, import and export products will be subject to taxes based on their level of compliance with pollution reduction rates, energy efficiency, the use of production materials that impact ecological balance, and the use of recyclable packaging.
Furthermore, some markets also impose environmental taxes and resource taxes on imported products. Notably, many countries have established commodity standards that strictly regulate the raw material content as a measure to protect the environment and prevent the depletion of natural resources. Therefore, enhancing the position of Vietnamese enterprises towards green and sustainable development, in line with the global development trend, is imperative.
Recognizing this reality, many businesses are shifting towards production and business activities that are integrated with environmental protection. Notably, many enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City have pioneered the application of modern automation technologies in production and business processes, contributing to enhancing their competitiveness in the market.
By achieving a balance between production and business activities and environmental protection, Tan Quang Minh Production and Trading Co., Ltd. (Bidrico) was honored to receive the "Ho Chi Minh City Green Enterprise 2024" award from the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee. This is the second consecutive year that Bidrico has achieved this title. This not only affirms Bidrico's position but also serves as motivation and a commitment to the company's green growth in the future.
Mr. Nguyen Dang Hien, General Director of Bidrico, stated that in the coming time, the company will continue to focus on enhancing management capacity and competitiveness in conjunction with innovation, applying science and technology, and digital transformation in production and business activities. This will contribute to building a clean and environmentally friendly living and working environment for the city and mitigating global warming, while collaborating with Vietnamese and international governmental organizations to address climate change.
Among the 98 businesses that were recently honored with the "Ho Chi Minh City Green Enterprise 2024" award, Mr. Nguyen Viet Hong, General Director of Vina Science and Technology Development Joint Stock Company (Vina CHG), shared that the company is promoting green production in alignment with the general trend. Accordingly, since the second quarter of 2023, the company has been implementing green packaging lines combined with anti-counterfeiting technology, utilizing safe materials with minimal environmental impact. In addition to using green materials, the company's machinery and equipment systems are continuously being improved to fully comply with safety, technical, energy-saving, and environmental protection standards.
Collaborating to support green brands and capital for businesses
According to Mr. Nguyen Anh Duc, Chairman of the Vietnam Retailers Association and General Director of Saigon Co.op, the green product market in Vietnam has experienced robust growth in recent years. This growth is driven by the increasing consumer demand for environmentally friendly and sustainable products. Statistics from the Ministry of Industry and Trade indicate that the demand for green products in Vietnam has grown by an average of 15% annually during the 2021-2023 period. 72% of Vietnamese consumers are willing to pay a premium for green products, demonstrating the growing awareness and concern among people regarding environmental protection.
However, to help green businesses establish a stronger foothold not only in the domestic market but also to expand into the global market, numerous practical support solutions are required. Ms. Le Thi Giau, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Binh Tay Joint Stock Company, believes that Ho Chi Minh City needs more solutions to assist businesses in developing compelling green brand stories and disseminating these brands effectively and directly to consumers. Furthermore, simplifying procedures and ensuring transparency in the dossier submission process are crucial to facilitate businesses in bringing their products to retail distribution systems quickly. Notably, retail systems should designate dedicated display areas for green businesses to enhance their access to consumers.
To bolster internal resources for green businesses, Mr. Nguyen Quang Thanh, Deputy General Director of Ho Chi Minh City State Financial Investment Company, stated that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has issued Decision 42/2024/QD-UBND dated July 16, 2024, on the implementation of the interest rate support policy for projects financed by the company. Accordingly, depending on the project, businesses can access loans of up to VND 200 billion and receive interest rate support of up to 100% for a period of 7 years.
HUBA (Ho Chi Minh City Union of Business Associations) is committed to supporting businesses throughout their transition to a green development model. HUBA representatives emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to build not only successful businesses but also businesses that demonstrate social and environmental responsibility.
