In June this year, HCM City made Plan 30 to tackle a smuggling ring that abused express delivery and postal services to illegally transport synthetic drugs from France to HCM City and then shipped to other localities for consumption.

The department detected 10 packages of imported non-commercial goods sent from France by the same consignor to HCM City and then shipped to Binh Duong and Dong Nai provinces.

Upon investigation, the addresses and consignee names on the bill of lading and packages were found to be fake addresses. Although the authority has sent invitation to the consignors they have not yet visited to receive goods.

On August 16, the department worked with the Anti-Smuggling and Investigation Department, HCM City Police to conduct a physical inspection for these packages.

The authorities seized more than 29 kg of MDMA synthetic drugs and more than 1.4 kg ketamine.

The drugs were hidden inside chocolate candies (each piece containing more than 20 MDMA tablets), or mixed in cake packs with the packaging method and weight as the authentic products.

The case is under investigation by competent authorities.

So far this year, the department has tackled around 50 cases related to drugs trafficking and seized about 150 kg drugs.

The department’s performance in anti-drug work has prevented illegal transportation of huge quantity of drugs into Vietnam, contributing to ensuring social safety.

Sophisticated tricks of hiding drugs were discovered by HCM City Customs Department.
