According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), the FSIS has made the final decision to recognize the inspection system for Siluriformes fish and fish products from three countries including Vietnam, China and Thailand as same qualify as United States system established under the Federal Meat Inspection Act and related enforcement regulations.

Also in this announcement, the FSIS introduced the final rule on China's eligibility to export poultry products to the US market.

In addition, the FSIS also opens an email address that allows all interested individuals to submit their recommendations on this matter at: fsispetitions@usda.gov.

More than a year ago, in September 2018, the FSIS also proposed to the Federal Register to publicize a draft proposal for comments on recognition of three countries: Vietnam, China and Thailand eligible for exporting Siluriformes fish and fish products to the US market.

The proposal was publicized and received a lot of comments within 30 days (from September 19 to October 19, 2018) on the US Federal Official Gazette.

According to FSIS, this proposal was developed based on the fact that the FSIS had reviewed Vietnam's laws, regulations and inspection system and determined that the inspection system for Siluriformes qualifies as same as the US inspection system under the Federal Meat Inspection Act (FMIA) and related enforcement regulations.

Under the proposal, only raw Siluriformes fish and fish products produced at facilities certified by the Vietnamese authorities are eligible for export to the United States. All of these products will be tested at FSIS testing facilities in the US.
