Fruit and vegetable exports soar, nearing US$6 billion

VCN - According to preliminary statistics recently released by the General Department of Vietnam Customs, in the first half of October (October 1-15), fruit and vegetable exports earned US$296 million.

Compared to the second half of September 2024, fruit and vegetable export turnover decreased significantly (by US$204 million).

However, from the beginning of the year to September 15th, fruit and vegetable exports brought in US$ 5.94 billion, a year-on-year increase of US$1.12 billion.

Durian remained the most significant contributor to fruit and vegetable export earnings. By the end of September, durian exports exceeded US$2.5 billion.

Other fruits such as bananas, mangoes, and dragon fruit also contributed millions of dollars in export earnings.

In a positive development for fruit and vegetable exports, mid-October saw the first shipments of fresh coconuts being exported to China via the border gates of Lao Cai and Lang Son.

Expanding the number of agricultural products exported to China is crucial for boosting export turnover, especially for fruits and vegetables.

China is currently Vietnam's largest export market for fruit and vegetables.

According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs' latest update, fruit and vegetable exports to China reached US$3.79 billion in the first nine months of the year, a significant increase of 37.82% year-on-year and accounting for 67.2% of the country's total fruit and vegetable export turnover.

Given the results achieved in the first 9.5 months, the expectation of setting a new record of US$7 billion in fruit and vegetable exports in 2024 is entirely feasible.
