Exports exceed US$101 billion

According to General Department of Vietnam Customs, in May, total export turnover hit US$21.9 billion, increasing by 7.2% compared to last month. By the end of May, there were three export commodity groups with turnover from US$10 billion and above.
Notably, the largest export item was phones and components after declining in turnover in many consecutive months in early 2019, with positive growth in May.
In May, the turnover of this commodity group reached more than US$3.7 billion, increasing the turnover of the first five months up to over US$19.7 billion, up 2.2% compared to the same period last year.
The remaining two groups of tens of billions of USD were machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts with the turnover of US$12.547 billion, increasing by 13.1%; textiles reached nearly US$12.2 billion, increasing by 11.5%.
Notably, in May, import turnover increased strongly by 10.5% compared to the previous month, reaching nearly US$23.2 billion.
Regarding the accumulated figure from the beginning of the year to the end of May, the total import turnover of the country reached US$101.555 billion.
Thus, by the end of May, the whole country experienced a trade deficit of US$434 million.
