Consider prosecuting a smuggled container of general cargo

At the end of February 2019, the Customs Enforcement Team detected a goods container that was imported to Cat Lai Port since 2018 and registered Customs declaration by Cat Loi Saitama Co., Ltd., (No. 1A Dong Nai, Ward 2, Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City) but was not carried out procedure for Customs clearance and receiving goods. The Team coordinated with Sai Gon Seaport Customs Branch of Zone 1 to inspect this container.

As a result, many smuggled goods hidden inside a used crawler excavator including: a Komatsu forklift and over 650 boxes of general goods (drinks, beer, tea, soap, noodles, tissues, diapers, 1 Komatsu forklift and nearly 1.4 tons of candy) were detected by the Customs.

According to the leader of the Customs Enforcement Team, for this case, the smuggling is clearly shown when only a used crawler excavator was declared on the Customs declaration, but dozens of tons of smuggled goods were hidden behind a partition inside the container by smugglers.

In addition, the company no longer operates at the business registration address, and the business director does not reside at the registered permanent address. The Customs authority has completed the dossier and is considering criminally prosecuting the case to expand investigations.
