Information regarding the update on agricultural co-operation between the two nations was released by Minister Walker during a recent meeting held alongside Vietnamese Ambassador to Chile Nguyen Ngoc Son. The pair had met in order to discuss measures aimed at strengthening the relationship between the two countries in the agricultural sector.
During the course of the meeting, the Chilean official expressed his great appreciation for the country’s dynamic economic development and went on to praise the Vietnamese Government for opening its market to cherries from Chile.
Minister Walker added that the Chilean government wishes to expand co-operation with Vietnam in the agricultural sector, including opening the nation's market for agricultural products, along with increased agricultural production co-operation, and rural development.
In response, Ambassador Son affirmed that the Vietnamese Government welcomes greater agricultural co-operation with Chile and hopes to boost trade with one of the country’s leading partners in South America. Indeed, the Government is especially keen on using science and technology application to develop clean agriculture, prevent climate change, minimise the negative impacts of natural disasters, along with managing and rationally exploiting forests.
Furthermore, Chile also aspires to bolster co-operation with the nation through multilateral mechanisms in which both sides are members, such as the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), the Vietnamese diplomat said.
