Cars massively imported via Ho Chi Minh city port due to the duty decline

VCN – Due to decline in duty rate for cars imported from ASEAN countries from 40% to 30% from January 1, 2017, in the first three months of 2017, the number of cars imported from ASEAN countries through the Ho Chi Minh city border gate dramatically increased.

As learned at the SPCT port border gate in Hiep Phuoc Industrial Park, Nha Be District, Ho Chi Minh City, the number of cars imported by foreign invested enterprises is quite large.

The leaders of Hiep Phuoc Port Customs Sub-Department said that in the first three months of 2017, there were more than 5,500 cars imported from ASEAN countries to SPCT port, more than three times higher than the number of imported cars in the same period in 2016 (1,557 cars).

Analysis of the leaders of the Import Cargo Customs Procedures Team - Hiep Phuoc Port Customs Department showed that the reason for the sudden increase in the number of cars imported through the port was due to the decline in the duty rate of cars imported from ASEAN countries from 40% to 30% from January 1, 2017. By the end of 2016, enterprises stopped importing cars from ASEAN countries to import in early 2017, thereby the number of cars implemented the customs procedures in the first months of the year has risen sharply.

However, at the Sai Gon port zone 3 border gate where enterprises often implement the import procedures for luxury cars, the number of imported cars decreased, thereby the budget revenues from this commodity fallen by more than half. In the first three months, the unit implemented the procedures for nearly 1,1000 imported cars and earned more than 467 billion vnd. Meanwhile, the number of imported cars was more than 1,500 cars and the budget revenue was nearly 1,100 billion vnd in the same period in 2016.

According to the leaders of the Custom Sub-department of Sai Gon port zone 3, the number of cars imported via the Vietnam International Container Terminals Port (VICT) sharply decreased in the first months of 2016 due to enterprises which import luxury car brands being forced to implement the import procedures.

Some luxury cars imported under the non-commercial form to the port, but their owners have not come the port to implement the procedures to receive cars.
