Car imports drops near Lunar New Year

Thailand, Indonesia and China make up 92% of car imports in October

In the first half of January, the country only imported 1,053 cars with the import turnover of US$ 39 million.

591 cars with 9 seats or less were imported with the import turnover of about US$ 18 million.

Near the Lunar New Year 2024, but the decrease in the number of imported car is different from the usual quantity for many years ago.

In 2023, Vietnam imported 118,942 CBU cars, with a turnover of US$2.83 billion, a plunge of 31.5% in volume and 26.3% in turnover compared to 2022.

The country imported the largest quantity of cars from Thailand with 53,942 cars. The import turnover reached US$1.14 billion, accounting for 45.35% of volume and 40.46% of CBU car import turnover of the whole country.

Ranked second is Indonesia with 42,676 cars with the turnover of US$ 607.55 million, accounting for 35.88% of volume and 21.47% of total CBU car import turnover of the whole country.

China ranked third with 11,002 vehicles, turnover of US$394.2 million, accounting for 9.25% of volume and 13.93% of total CBU car import turnover of the whole country.

The car imports from three markets in Asia alone account for 90.48% of the country's total imported cars in 2023.
