The General Department of Import and Export (Ministry of Industry and Trade) cited statistics from the General Department of Customs, saying that cassava exports decreased sharply in September 2024 due to the impact of floods and slow demand from China.

According to statistics from the General Department of Customs, in September 2024, Vietnam exported more than 121,000 tons of cassava and cassava products, worth US$ 56.74 million, down 36.8% in volume and 34.7% in value compared to August 2024; down 53.9% in volume and 53.7% in value compared to September 2023.

In the first nine months of 2024, the export of cassava and cassava products reached 1.91 million tons, worth US$879.22 million, down 10% in volume and 1.4% in value compared to the same period in 2023.

In September 2024, China was still the largest export market for cassava and cassava products of Vietnam, accounting for 92.92% in volume and 91.79% in value of the total export of cassava and cassava products of the whole country, with 112,450 tons, worth US$52.08 million, down 39% in volume and down 36.7% in value in August 2024; compared to September 2023, it decreased by 55.6% in volume and down 55.6% in value.

In the first nine months of 2024, Vietnam exported 1.76 million tons of cassava and cassava products to China, worth US$802.78 million, down 9.2% in volume and 0.2% in value compared to the same period in 2023.

Notably, in September 2024, cassava and cassava product exports to markets such as Malaysia, the Philippines, Japan and Pakistan all increased in both volume and value compared to the same period in 2023, however, the export volume to these markets was low.

In the first nine months of 2024, cassava and cassava product exports to some markets still grew well in both volume and value compared to the same period in 2023 such as Taiwan, Malaysia and Pakistan.

However, the exports to major markets such as China, South Korea, Japan and the Philippines all decreased sharply compared to the same period in 2023.
