A bitter nut's surprisingly sweet export success

VCN - The latest statistics from the General Department of Vietnam Customs show that in the first 15 days of October (October 1-15), Vietnam's coffee exports reached 21,489 tons, with a turnover of US$125.8 million.

As of October 15th, Vietnam had exported nearly 1.13 million tons of coffee, generating over US$ 4.44 billion in revenue.

Compared to the same period last year, the export volume decreased by 13% (equivalent to nearly 170,000 tons), but the revenue grew by a significant 35%.

The decrease in volume coupled with the increase in revenue clearly indicates a higher average price per ton compared to the same period last year.

Specifically, from the beginning of the year to mid-October, the average price reached US$ 3,933 per ton, while in the same period last year it was only US$ 2,534 per ton.

Remarkably, with 2.5 months remaining in the year, coffee export revenue has already surpassed the total for the entire year of 2023.

Key export markets for Vietnamese coffee include Germany, Italy, and Spain.

For many years, coffee has been a vital export commodity for Vietnam and the agricultural sector as a whole.

In 2023, the country exported over 1.6 million tons of coffee, generating a revenue of more than US$ 4.2 billion.
