According to the latest information from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, the latest commodity group with an export turnover of $US 1 billion or more in the first 3 months of the year was coffee. By the end of the first quarter of 2017, the turnover of coffee reached $US 1.029 billion, an increase of 27.5% compared to the same period in 2016.

Out of 9 commodity groups of exports worth "billions of US dollars", the phone is still the leading group with a turnover of $US 7.774 billion. But this is also the only commodity group with a negative growth rate of 6.1% compared to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, most other major export commodities of Vietnam have a double-digit increase compared to the same period in 2016.

Remarkably, the group of computers, electronic products, and components with the highest growth rate of 47.8% (equivalent to 1.786 billion) made the turnover of exports in the first quarter of 2017 reach $US 5.519 billion.

Although exports of computers, electronic products and components were ranked third but the gap between the commodity group of computers, electronic products and components and textile and garment (ranked second) was only $US 104 million (while in the first quarter of 2016, the difference was $US 1.377 billion).

With a total value of $US 30.972 billion, 9 commodity groups of exports contributed nearly 70% of the country's total export turnover in the same period.

From the export results of the first quarter of 2017, the economy of Vietnam made positive changes with many promising achievements.

Accordingly, many key export items had a high growth and export activities have been no longer heavily dependent on a few of commodity groups such as telephone or textiles as in previous years.

Another positive sign is an increase and high contribution of high-tech industry groups such as: telephone; computers, electronic products; devices; means of transportation; cameras and camcorders.
