6 commodity groups worth "billions" of US dollars between Vietnam and Japan

According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs, based on actual data of import and export of enterprises, to the end of November 2016, the total import-export turnover between Vietnam and Japan reached $US 26.855 billion.

In particular, the value of Vietnam exports to Japan is worth $US 13.274 billion and Vietnam imports from Japan is worth $US 13.851 billion.

In the major commodity groups between the two countries, each country has three commodity groups with turnover of $US 1 billion or more.

Specifically, three major exported commodity groups of Vietnam to Japan are: Textiles worth $US 2.622 billion; means of transport and spare parts worth $US 1.726 billion; and machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts worth $US 1.426 billion.

In reverse, the biggest commodity exported groups of Japan to Vietnam are: Machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts worth $US 3.723 billion; computers, electronic products and components worth $US 2.537 billion; and iron and steel worth $US 1.082 billion.

Looking at the results of trade exchange between Vietnam and Japan for 5 years (from 2012 to date), Vietnam had a trade surplus in the first 3 years (2012, 2013 and 2014) and 2 years later, Japan had a trade surplus.

Specifically, Vietnam had a trade surplus of $US 1.462 billion in 2012, a trade surplus of $US 2.016 billion in 2013; and a trade surplus of $US 1.767 billion in 2014.

However, Vietnam had a trade deficit of $US 218 million in 2015 and a trade deficit of $US 307 million in the first 11 months of 2016.
