4 commodity groups imported “tens of billion USD” in 2018

Computers, electronic products and components are the group with the largest turnover with an estimated result of $US 42.5 billion, increased by 12.5% compared to the previous year (according to plan, dated 10/1/2019, the General Department of Vietnam Customs announced preliminary information about import and export activities in 2018 – Customs News reporter).

The markets that provide this product group to Vietnam (updated by the General Department of Customs according to markets and countries by the end of November 2018) are Korea with a turnover of $US 15.91 billion, an increase of 14.6% over the same period last year, accounting for 41.2% of the total import turnover of this commodity group nationwide.

Next in rank is China with $US 7.07 billion, increased by 10%; then Japan with $US 3.76 billion, increased by 34.2% ...

The second largest import commodity group is machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts with the estimated result of $US 33.72 billion. This is one of the two product groups in the top 4 importing "tens of billions of USD" that decreased in turnover compared to 2017, along with phones and components.

Specifically, the import results of machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts in 2018 were estimated to decrease by 0.5% compared to 2017.

The largest import value of this group is from the Chinese market with $US 10.92 billion, increased by 9.5%; from South Korea reached $US 5.6 billion, decreased by 30.5%, and from Japan with $US 4.05 billion, increased slightly by 4%...

The third largest group is mobile phones and accessories with the estimated value of $US 16.01 billion, decreased by 2.6% from the previous year.

South Korea and China are still the two main markets that supply all kinds of phones and components to Vietnam, accounting for 93.2% of total value. In that, China is $US 7.82 billion, increased by 2.5% over the same period last year; South Korea is $ US 5.61 billion, rose slightly by 0.4%.

Fabrics and textiles with a turnover of $US 12.91 billion, an increase of 13.5% compared to 2017, is the fourth in the group of “tens of billion USD” of imports last year.

The main import markets are: China reached $US 6.506 billion, rose by 19.6%; South Korea reached $US 1.97 billion, increased by 6.5%; Taiwan market reached $US 1.492 billion, increased slightly by 2.7%...
