The value of exported woodchip fell in 2015.

Mr. Nguyen Ba Ngai, the Deputy Director General of the General Directorate of Forestry stated: In 2016, although the turnover of exported wood and wooden products increased by 5-10% compared to 2015, the total value of exported wood and wooden products increased by only 1% compared to 2015. The reason is that the value of exported woodchip fell this year, only 61% compared to 2015.

Specifically, the fall in export of woodchip derived from the reduction of global demand, especially in the Chinese market. In addition, the price of Vietnamese woodchip must face up with the price of woodchip in some strong and competitive markets such as Thailand, Australia and some countries in Africa.

Regarding the development of the forestry sector in 2016, Mr. Ngai said that international cooperation to diversify the market had been strengthened. In particular, the completion of negotiations and the basic statement of Voluntary Partnership Agreement on Forest Law Enforcement, governance and trade of forest products (VPA / FLEGT) between Vietnam and the European Union have brought many opportunities to develop the market in the near future.
