On the morning of August 27 Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc hosted an official welcome ceremony for his Malaysian counterpart Mahathir Mohamad at Hanoi based Presidential Palace

Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad arrived in Hanoi on August 26 night, starting his official visit to Vietnam from August 27-28 at the invitation of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc. This is the first visit to Vietnam since Mahathir took office in May 2018.

The two government leaders hold talks immediately after the welcoming ceremony.

At the talks, PM Phuc shows his appreciation for Malaysia's position in the region and affirms Vietnam's recognition's great importance to strategic partnership with Malaysia.

Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad congratulates Vietnam on assuming the ASEAN Chair 2020 and becoming a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

Both government leaders witness the signing ceremony of documents between the two nations' ministries and agencies.

They host a press conference to announce the outcomes of their talks with a high consensus on the East Sea issue. They underline the need to deal with pending issues based on stance of peace and mutual respect, and adherence to international law.

The two PMs believe that strategic partnership between Vietnam and Malaysia will continue growing steadily in the time ahead.
