Vietnam Economic Forum 2021: Finding a way for recovery and sustainable development

On the afternoon of December 2, 2021 in Hanoi, the Vietnam Central Economic Commission, the Economic Committee of the National Assembly, the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences held a press conference on the Vietnam Economic Forum 2021 titled: “Recovery and Sustainable Development” and the launch of the Forum’s website.

Deputy Chairman of the Economic Committee of the National Assembly Nguyen Minh Son said the Vietnam Economic Forum 2021 will not only discuss economic issues, but also address social, cultural, educational and environmental issues.

The forum will provide more scientific and practical foundations to help the Government develop and issue policies to support the economy to soon overcome difficulties, recover and promote growth and better adapt to the new normal and not to "miss the beat" of the world's development trend.

Accordingly, the forum is a place where domestic and foreign experts, speakers, and businesses will discuss, share, and give objective and comprehensive assessments about the current situation of Vietnam's economy in 2020 and 2021; and policies to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic and achieved results.

Also, the forum will clarify the international context, forecast and evaluate the development of the Covid-19 pandemic with new variants and strains, the trend of economic restructuring due to the impact of Covid-19; production and business trends due to the pandemic and study the policies to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic that have been implemented around the world, effectiveness and risks thereof, thereby drawing lessons for Vietnam.

The forum will also make recommendations on fiscal and monetary policies, the coordination between policies to support the master program on socio-economic recovery (entities, scope, scale, etc); maximum and effective use of resources and making the most of the economy's potential; and propose specific tasks, solutions and implementation mechanisms.

The forum will introduce key solutions, focusing on policies with immediate impact, some long-term policies affecting the growth engine of the economy as well as exports, domestic consumption and some prioritized industries, fields in association with solving social problems.

At the press conference, Mr. Bui Van Cuong, Secretary General of the National Assembly introduced the website of the Forum. Accordingly, the Forum has the domain name: diendankinhte.quochoi.vn.

The website is designed in Vietnamese and English, which is a tool for the Organizing Committee to synthesize and provide official information about the Vietnam Economic Forum not only in 2021 but also for the future forums.

In addition, the website will provide documents, photos and videos which reporters and journalists can use to publicize information about the forum in a timely, accurate and complete manner.

“The forum will be held annually and always provide updated information on the website, contributing to the promulgation of policies,” said Mr. Bui Van Cuong.

The Vietnam Economic Forum 2021 will take place on December 5, 2021, divided into two sessions. The morning session, senior discussion has the theme "Some suggestions for Vietnam's socio-economic recovery and development program".

The afternoon session consists of two topics. The first is on "Flexible and effective coordination of fiscal and monetary policies, creating resources for macroeconomic stability and economic recovery"; the second is on "Ensuring social security and labor supply in the process of economic recovery".

The contents of the Forum will cover all industries and fields from economy to society, culture, education and environment.
