On June 11, Saigon New Port Corporation sent a written response to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association after the Association had written information about their export goods being "stolen" upon export through Cat Lai port.

In the written response, Saigon Newport Corporation clearly stated that units and divisions of Saigon Sai Gon Newport Corporation are working with competent units and authorities to verify information on the loss of goods provided by the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association.

Saigon Newport Corporation believes that the risk of cargo loss can occur at many stages. There is currently no basis to confirm that cargo loss occurred at Cat Lai port.

"The flow of goods moving from the seller's warehouse to the buyer's warehouse must go through stages in the supply chain, such as: transportation at sea, to the unloading port, transportation from the port to the importer's warehouse. So, it is necessary to check all stages to avoid causing misunderstandings as well as affecting the Corporation's prestige" - Saigon Newport Corporation clearly stated.

Before there is an accurate conclusion from the authorities, Saigon Newport Corporation requested the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association to coordinate with the corporation to verify and clarify the case, and carry out a number of contents to avoid affecting the reputation and brand of Saigon Newport Corporation.

Previously, on June 10, the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association sent a written petition to the Vietnam Maritime Administration and Saigon Newport Corporation about the shortage of exported goods and suspicion of goods stolen at Cat Lai port.

The document of the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association said that the association continuously receive feedback from its member businesses about their import partners reporting on a shortage of a certain amount of pepper and coffee discovered at destination port compared to the signed contract.

"We hope that with the direction and supervision of the Vietnam Maritime Administration and the professionalism and responsibility of a service provider, Saigon Newport Corporation, along with the coordination and investigation by the authorities, the case of cargo loss will soon be clarified, maintaining confidence for businesses in the seaport management, supervision and operation system", the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association.

However, some businesses responded to the association about the shortage of goods, but they did not suspect the loss occurred at destination port but from abroad.

For example, Company V. had a shipment exported from December 2023. When it arrived at the destination port (Egypt), it was discovered that dozens of bags (approximately two tons) were missing. This company suspects that the entire hinge of the container was removed to get the goods, while the container was still sealed.

Another case, an export shipment from April 2024, when the partner received goods and discovered a shortage of 975kg. The company reported this to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association. The company is verifying and clarifying the cause.
