That is the issue at the seminar “Green living with wooden furniture” held by the Handicraft and Wood Industry Association of Ho Chi Minh (Hawa) on 12 November 2018 in Ho Chi Minh City.

The survey conducted by Nielsen Vietnam has shown that over 80% of Vietnamese respondents are willing to pay higher money to buy products with a commitment to positive impact on the environment and society. Accordingly, there were 80% of consumers concerned about the long-term effects of artificial materials and 79% are willing to pay more money to buy products that do not contain the materials that they do not want.

According to this survey, the enterprises with clean production and commitment to supply clean and green products have an average growth that is 4 times higher than enterprises in the same industry, especially in the Food and Beverage sector… At the same time, the consumer’ knowledge has forced manufactures to be careful in choosing material sources meeting standards in line with the new trend.

Vice President cum general secretary of Hawa said that in the context of increasing environmental disasters in the world as well as in Vietnam, the acceptance of the green living by many consumers is completely understandable. Especially when green living is the ideal message for the development of the wood and furniture industry today. Because wooden products are made only from natural materials on the planet, that can be recycled. Besides, the materials are friendly with the environment, so that the quality of wooden products is not limited to the hard part of the product but also the ecological quality.

Therefore, paying attention to green consumption is a great opportunity for the wood manufacturing industry. According to Mr. Phuong, scientists proved that the consumption of wood instead of cement, steel, plastic is an environmental solution. The cause is that each ton of produced steel generates 1.5 tonnes of CO2, each ton of cement generates 1,125 tonnes of CO2, meanwhile when each ton of wood biomass is formed, it will absorb 1.42 tonnes of CO2.

Not only the opportunity for the Wood and Furniture Manufacturing Industry, the green living is also the order for the architectural constructions of the era. Architect Nguyen Hoang Manh said that designers can fully embrace this trend to create works based on nature, and put human living space in harmony with natural space to exploit nature and bring a better experience for human living space. The biggest problem for architects, businesses and consumers is how to balance the economy because stable living is directly related to cost, target, profit and so on.

Mr. Huynh Van Hanh, Vice President of Hawa said that the green living trend is also a condition for enterprises to develop sustainably. This trend will immediately affect the economy, forcing manufacturers to change and choose the more appropriate solutions.

VCN- According to latest information from the General Department of Forestry (MARD), estimated export value of forestry ...

For the wood and furniture manufacturing industry, Hawa said that the consumption of furniture in 2017 in Vietnam was estimated at over US$ 3 billion, an average growth of about 8% over the past 7 years, in which the construction works attracted about 40%. From the expanding green living trend, the chances brought by the domestic real estate market together with the above growth rate, Hawa forecasts that the domestic market will continue to grow in the high-level and middle-level segments in the coming time.

Also, Mr. Hanh added that the wood manufacturing industry is a catalyst for tree planters, helping to increase the forest coverage rate of Vietnam in recent years. Accordingly, it creates jobs and supports over 1.4 million households. In addition, the value of wood manufacturing and processing chain highly increases. Accordingly, the use of wooden furniture derived from legal wood is one of the ways to show the philosophy of green living of each person.
