The first locality reaches $10 billion of export turnover

According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs, in the first quarter, 11 provinces and cities reached export turnover of US$1 billion or more including: Bac Giang, Bac Ninh, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Hanoi, Hai Duong, Hai Phong, Long An, Tay Ninh, Ho Chi Minh City and Thai Nguyen.
Compared to the same period in 2019, the number of provinces and cities that hit turnover of "billion USD" increased by one which was Tay Ninh with nearly $1.094 billion, up 9.8%, equivalent to an increase of nearly $100 million.
Meanwhile, Ho Chi Minh City retained the leading position on exports of the country with value of $10.5 billion, up 14.6% over the same period last year.
This locality accounted for 16.6% of total export turnover in the first quarter.
Notably, while most localities recorded higher export turnover over the same period, Hanoi and Thai Nguyen declined.
Specifically, Thai Nguyen plummeted to more than $400 million from $7.362 billion in the first quarter of last year to $6.951 billion.
Meanwhile, Hanoi dropped from $3.354 billion in the first quarter of last year to $3.15 billion, more than $200 million.
Among the remaining provinces and cities, Hai Phong and Bac Ninh had impressive increases.
By the end of the first quarter, Hai Phong achieved export turnover of $3.922 billion, an increase of nearly $1.05 billion over the same period in 2019, making it the locality with achieving the second-highest increase in turnover after Ho Chi Minh City (Ho Chi Minh City increased by more than $1.33 billion).
Regarding to Bac Ninh, in the first quarter, this locality reached the second-largest turnover of the country with $8.06 billion, up more than $450 million USD compared to the same period of 2019.
With total turnover of nearly $49.35 billion, 11 key localities accounted for 78% of the country's total export turnover in the first quarter.
