This is the biggest discountby TMV. Obviously, the move of this largest automobile joint venture in Vietnam has had a strong impact on the Vietnamese automobile market.

Policies change, car prices have a chance to decline deeply

Discounts are an inevitable solution byfirms to increase sales and reduce inventories in the context that supply is greater than demand. This is considered to be an abnormal fluctuation of the market, because at the end of the year, the car market often experiences a shortage of cars. For example, at the end of 2018, to buy a car before Lunar New Year, many customers had to pay hundreds of millionsof VND more.

Moreover, many moves show that some policies related to cars will have changes in the future, strongly impacting car prices.

At the regular Government press conference in the afternoon of December 2, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do ThangHai said: “To support businesses to reduce production costs, in the future, the Government, the ministries and the sector will have solutions to maintain and create markets for the automotive industry to develop. The Government will protect and create the development of the domestic automobile market with technical barriers and ensure international commitments.”

Deputy Minister of Finance Vu Thi Mai also said that the Ministry of Finance is amending and expected to submit to the Government a Decree amending and supplementing Decree 125 in December 2019 in the direction of creating more favorable conditions and more incentives for businesses and industries that support automobile manufacturing and assembly. The draft amending the Decree provides a proposal for a 0% tax rate for domestic automobile parts and accessories, even imported goods.

Thus, it is forecasted that in the future, the price of domestically produced cars will continue to have the opportunity to fall, leading to the price reduction of imported cars to compete.
