In June 2005, the World Customs Organization (WCO) developed and adopted the SAFE Framework of Standards to Secure and Facilitate Global Trade. The SAFE Framework plays a crucial role in encouraging countries to modernize, enhance security, and facilitate trade within global supply chain management and Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) programs.
