PM Phuc calls for stronger partnership with Singapore firms

The government leader highly appreciated the management and operation model of the Port of Singapore and was greatly impressed with the process of handling, operation and IT application at the port.

PM Phuc asked the Port of Singapore Authority (PSA), which operates the Port of Singapore, to share its experience and step up cooperation with Vietnam to help the country develop its seaport systems.

With a total of 60 berths at its container terminals using modern and automatic loading and unloading equipment, the PSA can serve the world's largest container ships. The operation of berths is controlled by the world’s most modern computer system.

The PSA can receive large number of foreign ships for transiting at the port and it handled up to 33.3 million TEUs of cargo last year. The number of containers handled in the port is estimated to make up roughly 10% of the world's total number.

Meanwhile, the supply chain of smart logistics services and urban solutions - Supply Chain City of the YCH Group is regarded as a small Silicon Valley for logistics and the important supply chain of the island nation.

Launched in 2017 covering an area of more than 600,000 sq.m, Supply Chain City has turned Singapore into a major logistics hub of the world.

YCH Group CEO Robert Yap briefed PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his delegation on the firm’s operations and Supply Chain City, which has adopted state-of-the-art technologies in logistic services. The group has a subsidiary in Vietnam and YCH is planned to expand its logistic operations in the country in the near future, he said.

PM Phuc expressed Vietnam’s desire to learn from the group’s experience and affirmed the Vietnamese Government’s readiness to offer the best possible conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to bolster cooperation with Supply Chain City so as to further develop modern logistic services in the country.

Vietnam will concentrate on building a number of logistic service and goods centres and is keen to augment cooperation with foreign partners, including Singapore. He said he hopes the YCH Group will partner with Vietnamese companies to invest in this field towards boosting economic development.
