Nghe An Customs discovers cars of unknown origin, using fake license plates
Clues from cars with fake plates
Talking to reporters, the Head of the Customs Control Team Phan Van Nham said that from 2017, the unit has found information on using cars of unknown origin in central provinces.In Nghe An province, there are many cars using fake papers and plates.
“Most of these cars have unknown origin and unknown circulation time, offenders are likely to abuse the regime of imports for re-exports and facilitating regulations for means of transport between Vietnam and Laos to buy, sell and use cars in contravention of regulations,” added Nham.
To make fraudulent acts clear, the team has sent officers to work with competent forces in the area to investigate, verify and make plans to arrest over months.
Specifically, from 2017, the team has worked with competent forces to seize 11 vehicles and handle eight vehicles. On March 23, 2018, the team presided over and coordinated with Dien Chau District Police to detect and arrest Nguyen Xuan T. for using Lexus 350 cars with fake plate 51A -572.35. T confessed that he bought this car in the market with a cheap price and then used fake plate to circulate it. To handle the case, the team imposed an administrative fine ofVND 40 million and confiscated the car and sold it to the public fund.
On January, 18 and 19 2019, the team also coordinated with the Police to seize a smuggled Toyota Camry and a smuggled Kia. On March 26, in Dien Chau town, Dien Chau district, Nghe An province, the team implemented NA191 special case and seized a 7-seat Mercedes car in black with plate 30F-8382, used by Le Xuan H. born in 1985, residing in the town of Dien Chau district, Nghe An province without legal documents.
Most recently, on April 12, at the pavement in front of house number 17, Doc Thiet Street, Hung Binh Ward, Vinh City, Nghe An Province, the Customs Control Team coordinated with competent forces to seize a Lexus RX350 car in black, with plate30A-677.59, used by Nguyen Thi N, born in 1959, residing in Block 12, Quan Bau Ward, Vinh City, Nghe An Province without legal documents.
According to Nham, in addition to taking advantage of the loopholes of import-export procedures for fraud, offenders made fake plates and fake papers to circulate illegally imported vehicles.

Take the initiative in prevention and combat
Director of Nghe An Customs Department Chu Quang Luan said that the illegal use and consumption of cars of unknown origin in Nghe An is increasingly complicated. To achieve the above results, Nghe An Customs has enhanced the handling of violations and prevention of trade fraud. The unit has proposed specific measures, focusing on collecting and analysing information, coordinating well with competent forces in the area to detect and prevent acts of smuggling, transporting, consuming and using illegal cars in timely fashion.
To control this situation, Nghe An Customs has directed the Customs Control Team to coordinate with competent agencies and forces in the area to strengthen investigation, verification, seizure and handling. The Department also held a conference to summarise and draw experience from the seizure and strictly handle cars of unknown origin.

In addition, Nghe An Customs continues to strengthen inspection and strict control of border gates, seaports and other places under the customs control area, ensuring strict and timely control to detect and handle acts of smuggling and trade fraud. In particular, the unit coordinated with Police in investigating cases related to cars.
