National Assembly approves appointment of new Minister of Finance Nguyen Van Thang

Earlier, on the afternoon of November 27, under the direction of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh presented a proposal to the National Assembly to approve the dismissal of the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Transport for the 2021-2026 term.

In the afternoon session of November 28, the Prime Minister reported to the National Assembly on the explanation and acceptance of the opinions of National Assembly deputies on the proposal to appoint the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Transport for the 2021-2026 term.

After that, the National Assembly elected the member of the Standing Committee and General Secretary of the 15th legislature; approved the Prime Minister's proposal to appoint the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Transport for the 2021-2026 term; adopted the proposal of the Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court on the appointment of Judges of the Supreme People's Court.

The National Assembly voted to adopt the resolution approving the Prime Minister's proposal to appoint Nguyen Van Thang as Minister of Finance and Tran Hong Minh as Minister of Transport for the 2021-2026 term, with all 452 deputies present in the session, equivalent to 94.36% of the total number of deputies, voting in favor.

The new Minister of Finance Nguyen Van Thang held many important positions, from business officer to chairman of VietinBank’s Board of Directors, from 1996 to 2018.

From 2018 to 2020, he held the position of Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province. From October 2020 to October 2022, he was elected to hold the position of Secretary of the Dien Bien Provincial Party Committee.

From October 2022 to present, he has been appointed to the position of Minister of Transport.

Additionally, the National Assembly voted to approve a resolution on the election of Le Quang Tung as a member of the Standing Committee and General Secretary of the 15^th legislature.

Specifically, 453 out of 454 deputies present in the sitting, or 94.57% of the total number of deputies, voted in favor a resolution on the election, while one deputy, or 0.21%, abstained from voting.

The National Assembly voted to adopt a resolution approving the Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court's proposal to appoint Nguyen Quoc Doan and Le Tien as Justices of the Supreme People's Court, with 448 out of 451 deputies, or 94.15%, voting in favor, one voting against, and two abstaining from voting.
