VCN - Talking to the press recently, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai said since the acute respiratory infection due to a new strain of coronavirus (Covid-19) appeared in Vietnam, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has made overall plans with an action plan to identify the worst cases, including in the case of a pandemic occurring in many provinces of Vietnam.

In recent days, the detection of people infected with Covid-19 in Hanoi has caused panic, especially concerns that there may be a shortage of consumer goods, especially necessities. Could you elaborate on the current supply of goods?

Since the Covid-19 epidemic appeared in Vietnam, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has developed a comprehensive plan with an action plan to identify the worst cases, even in the case of a Covid-19 epidemic. However, in places like Hanoi, there are also other provinces in Vietnam that have measures to deal with the situation.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has cooperated with People's Committees of provinces and cities, the focal points are the Departments of Industry and Trade, the Market Management force and the distribution enterprises throughout the distribution system in Vietnam to find supply sources for people’s demand.

It can be confirmed that the source of goods for the needs of people is not low, it is enough to meet demand.

We look forward to the people in the country and the people in Hanoi remaining calm, absolutely confident in the direction as well as the solutions and measures that the Government and the Central Steering Committee on epidemic prevention of Covid-19 issued, paying attention to the specific recommendations of the authorities, especially the recommendations of the Ministry of Health.

For example, if there are still essential foods or items, at this time people do not necessarily go to crowded places, especially supermarkets and shopping malls.

Could you please talkabout the remarkable point to focus on ensuring that in the future, in case of Covid-19 case spreading to many other localities, outside Hanoi?

According to the distribution system in Vietnam, businesses first took the initiative in their business. The coordination between central government and local authorities, the entry of sectors and businesses as in Hanoi is very positive, both timely and drastic.

In fact, in the immediate future, it is necessary to concentrate on fully preparing essential goods for people's lives and needs. That is what needs to be a focus. Especially, not only interested in preparing and supplying essential goods for people in big cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang, but also in remote areas, borders and islands.

The Government will launch a credit package of VND 250,000 billion, a fiscal package of VND 30,000 billion and a series of other measures to help businesses overcome Covid-19. From the perspective of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, how has the ministry been implementing solutions to accompany difficulties for businesses?

Since the Covid-19 epidemic occurred, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has promptly promoted activities and proposed solutions to competent authorities, directly the Government and the Prime Minister.

We find that the directions and instructions of the Prime Minister are timely and provide necessary and effective support to Vietnamese businesses. As soon as the disease broke out, Vietnamese businesses need to be supportedquicklyatall levels.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade is currently focusing on solutions to support businesses, first of all Vietnamese enterprises because FDI enterprises have strong potential and support from representative countries in Vietnam. In contrast, Vietnamese enterprises are still small, micro enterprises, so they need support.

For domestic enterprises, especially industrial production enterprises, input as raw material for production is a matter of concern. The sharing and support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade is that mobilizing products in the domestic market can be an input to supply raw materials for Vietnamese enterprises.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Industry and Trade requires all Vietnamese businesses in countries and territories around the world to find alternative sources of goods on which Vietnamese businesses are dependent.

However, it must be anticipated that it is not easy to do so and if it can, the price of input materials may be higher than currently imported by Vietnamese enterprises for production, which affects the competitiveness of the product.
