Ensuring supply

Mr. Pham Thanh Hung, Director of Ba Huan Joint Stock Company, said that Ba Huan was now ready to prepare goods to ensure sufficient supply for the market at the end of the year.

Accordingly, Ba Huan has put into operation an 18-hectare farm with a capacity of 1 million chickens and a 34-hectare farm with a capacity of 5 million chickens. In addition, this enterprise has built a large poultry farm in Ben Luc, Long An to supply the market and a food processing factory in Duc Hoa district, Long An with slaughter capacity of 2,000 units and processing capacity of 30,000 tons of meat per day.

Regarding the distribution system, Ba Huan's products have also covered big supermarket systems such as Co.opmart, Big C and Vinmart with a commitment to ensure sufficient production and food safety criteria when marketed. It is expected that the amount of Ba Huan's goods supplied for Tet will increase about 20% compared to last year.

As a key enterprise supplying pork for Tet, Mr. Nguyen Dang Phu, Deputy General Director of Vissan said that up to now, Vissan signed contracts with suppliers to ensure sufficient supply of pork for the holiday. Production of processed products for Tet was also at its peak. According to Mr. Phu, this year due to the impact of African swine fever, the pork market had witnessed fluctuations and supply was greatly affected, however, Vissan will still ensure sufficient supply of goods for Tet with increased output about 5% over the same period last year.

In addition to manufacturing enterprises, large distribution enterprises in the city also have detailed plans for the holiday by the end of 2019. This year, Saigon Co.op continues to stabilize the market with 10 product groups, and organize capital supply for satellite production enterprises to prepare goods. The suppliers of Saigon Co.op have also prepared to source for Tet. In addition to traditional products, due to complicated disease and weather conditions and low re-herd rate, Saigon Co.op is also planning the reserve of pork, poultry, seafood to take initiative in price and market stabilization.

According to the Department of Industry and Trade, the market stabilization program for the year 2019 – Tet year 2020 in the city will be implemented from April 1, 2019 to the end of March 2020. Essential foods include 10 commodity groups, the market stabilizing volume accounts for 25-30% of the market demand and in the months of Tet, the market stabilizing goods account for 30-40% of the market demand.

According to the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City, there will be a big difference in pork at the end of the year because of the prolonged African swine fever epidemic, which caused a shortage of supply. Demand for pork in the city is about 10,000 pigs per day, on the occasion of the Lunar New Year, it is about 1.5 times higher than normal and 80% of the output is provided by the provinces. In order to stabilize the pork market, the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City has a plan to deploy and urge enterprises to stabilize the market and proactively build a plan to create sources of essential food products – pork, chicken, eggs and poultry – to ensure the supply and exceed the plan of the city.

Focusing on food safety

In addition to ensuring the supply, to prepare the source of goods for the market at the end of 2019, enterprises have invested heavily in improving product quality, product diversification, traceability of goods, and a closed process. Of which, 100% of egg and poultry products and all pork, beef, vegetables are traced to ensure food safety.

Vissan Company said that due to the complicated disease situation, from the beginning of the year until now, the firm has strengthened the control of sources to ensure safety not only for Vissan's farms but also for other supply sources. Accordingly, the company has cooperated closely with the Sub-Department of Animal Health to ensure 100% of the company's raw pork to be marketed. Currently, 100% of Vissan's stores have joined the Food Safety Chain initiated by the HCMC Food Safety Board in May 2018.

On the side of Saigon Co.op, ensuring food hygiene and safety for goods sold in supermarkets is always a focus. To ensure the supply of goods for the Tet market, Saigon Co.op has started to increase the frequency of sampling tested closely from the beginning of the source of goods to supermarkets.

According to the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City, participating in stabilizing the market at the end of the year, many key enterprises of the city have planned to store goods to best serve the shopping needs of consumers. Specifically, the Saigon Agriculture Corporation supplies pigs (from 80 - 90kg per unit), focusing on developing the breeding pig source, supporting farmers to re-breed; Vissan Company reserves 3,600 tons for 45 days and imports meat if there is a big change; the Ba Huan Company stocked 200 tons of chicken, increasing the supply of 20 tons of poultry meat; San Ha Company stockpiles 1,500 tons of pork and chicken, increasing the supply to 200 tons of chicken meat per day, 25 tons of pork per day; the C.P Vietnam Company exceeds supply assigned by city plan; deploying technical measures, early slaughter, more deeply involved in the pork supply chain.
